History of Rugby Events

In 1823, the sport of rugby originated in a football match in the English city of Ragby.
After 1839, rugby gradually developed in schools such as the University of Cambridge, and the Rugby Club was established one after another, and inter school competitions gradually became active.
In 1871, the English Rugby Association was established, and British rugby quickly spread to various countries in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries.
In 1890, the International Rugby Council was established. English rugby has been constantly developing and changing in many countries, creating different forms of rugby. But it can be roughly divided into English rugby and American rugby.
In 1900, former Olympic Committee President Pierre de Coubertin introduced rugby to the Olympics.
In 1925, after Coubertin resigned, Henry de Baye Latour served as the President of the Olympic Committee. From then on, group events were restricted by the Olympic Committee, and rugby was removed from Olympic events.
In 1987, the International Rugby Council held the first World Cup Men's Rugby Championship.
On December 15, 1990, China Agricultural University (formerly Beijing Agricultural University) established China's first domestic rugby team.
In 1991, the International Rugby Council held the first World Women's Rugby Championship.
In 1993, the first World Cup 7-player Rugby Championship was held.
On October 7, 1996, the Chinese Rugby Association was officially established.
On March 18, 1997, the Chinese Rugby Association became an official member of the International Rugby Council, which referred to this as a milestone in the development of international rugby.
On December 5, 1997, the Asian Rugby Federation passed a resolution admitting the Chinese Rugby Association as its ninth official member.
In 1998, the Chinese Rugby Association held the first National Rugby Championship in Beijing, followed by one national championship in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Qingdao.
Since 1999, the International Rugby Council has held 10 rounds of the 7-player rugby round robin in 10 countries and regions around the world every year.
On October 9, 2009, in the vote of the 121st Session of the International Olympic Committee held in Copenhagen, Denmark, rugby sevens was approved and became a competition item of the 2016 Olympic Games.
